Firmary Budget Meetings were held
weekly at the Headquarters on Main St in down town Atlan, the very heart of the empire, the ignition and fuel of the Great Machine. As it was the only weekly meeting and traditionally attended by all, all except Vikkar, it was always, in fact, a General Meeting, however Budgets were due and collected for Accounts.
This week there was an extra buzz in the air. As the gods settled in their seats around the old oak table, Dell the god of Mercantile handed out his
data tablets of Projected Reports and Forecasts Projected. Dell was the Head Professor
of Merchant U and a great influencer of his sibling gods, not only was he able to steer the minds
of each young Merchant whom attended his school. Dell was able to influence the minds
Above and Below the walls of the Atlan Empire, this was why Atalon made sure he didn't know what was actually happening above the Headquarters Meeting Room.
At first glance, it would appear that King Atalon ran the
empire. The hidden truth was that when one peered into the bowels of the Great
Machine, it was the Merchants who ran the Great Machine, they ran the
businesses and generated the trade which fed and grew the economy. The aribu, as Atalon called them, were the ignition and the fuel, but of course we knew that already.
"Silence!"
Atalon banged his telescope on the table three times, taking a moment to study
the gods as they settled down, eyes sparkling wth pumped up energies. "Mika!"
He snapped his solid, gold ringed fingers and a Golden Goddess stepped forth from the shadows holding a tray,
supporting an object draped in a red velvet cloth, murmurs murmured anew.
"Silence!"
The king hushed their voices once again. "This, my brothers, is going to launch the shift of power to our advantage using Solarian Power!" He gestured to the goddess to lift the cloth. Gasps of surprise
exploded around the table as they beheld the object on the tray.
Hedena, goddess of Conformity frowned with disapproval. "What is that? A patio ornament?" Hedena was never thrilled to see new
inventions, especially if they looked like brains in any way. She knew where
this was coming from, it was coming from the Electric Brain Theory, Malodon and Seton's pet project. Her education
program was under constant attack and losing funding because of it, any program involving aribu seemed to
somehow affect her students in convoluted and damaging ways, the experiments didn't
always work out.
"Is that a crystal
skull?" Medena, goddess of Plenty was aroused by the appearance, the chiselled and polished mystique of the crystal facial features and perfectly styled skull, was a stunning object to behold. Medena was, after all a talent scout,
Malodon's sub-rosa supporting role in the production of the aribu slaves and very
interested in the Electric Brain Theory. She had been wondering about the
crystal connection since they all laid eyes upon the book. "Ahhh... I get it…" The lightbulb suddenly went on. "The diamond thing in the Book ofLife... That was a crystal..."
Atalon smiled proudly as a surprise round of applause filled
the room.
"Silence" he banged his telescope again to hush
the cheer, it was, after all, premature to release the Headline News. "It is with great expectations
only, that I present you with funding for the Crystal Skull Program. This device will
harness the elusive powers of the Light Serpent, which will eventually be harnessed and used to transmit
tailored thoughts to the aribu!"
Atalon scanned his siblings faces, pausing for a moment to study Vikkar's empty spot. The audience was silent. "These thoughts they have are electromagnetic! That'sright! Aribu have electrical thoughts because they are descended from the Solarians, who are descended from the Light Serpents
and this is how we will harness that energy!"
"How?"
"I think their pyramid is made of quartz..." Orius offered.
"The pure Lemurian Crystal, crafted into the
shape of a skull acts as a conductor to their minds so that the Light Serpents
can enter" Atalon explained. "Through these Light Serpents we will be able
to send them our desired thoughts!"
The group glanced around the table with some
discomfort, it seemed like a real long shot, somewhat… Ridiculous…
But the king continued, convinced of his latest insights,
regardless of their skeptical mannerisms. "With this power we will be able to
control them completely and simply by programming their new electrical thoughts!"
As if on cue, Halios lifted the skull from the tray and
passed it to Medena. "Oooooh" her face lit up as she held the heavy
sculpture in her hands, "I like it... It's heavy..."
"How do we control the Light Serpents?" Orius was
struggling, it was apparent in his voice.
"Lemurian Crystal" Atalon offered, brushing Orius off. The gods took turns studying the crystal skull, passing it
along the table, each one of them in awe of its incredible form, the beauty of the skull rendering them speechless.
It was an intriguing project, but the scientific theory behind the idea
was difficult to grasp. Orius held the skull in his hands, admiring the craftsmanship. He knew what Atalon was trying to do, he wasn't
convinced it would work nor was he doubtful of the Crystal Skull having some sort of power. He
could feel the energy of the rock in his hands, he didn't need it to be shaped
into a skull to feel it, however. He didn't need to be told it was Lemurian Crystal, he knew already just by holding it, he was born feeling these
things, yet these were the skills which scared the Anunnaki, his half siblings, so for the most part Orius acted like he didn't have them. As a result, he didn't know how to use them,
instead they only tormented him inside by 'knowing' things for no reason and having unexplainable urges and feelings.
He knew Atalon's intentions weren't pure and
wondered how long before the seemingly innocent project would inevitably go astray.
"What about Vikkar?" He asked, given that he would
be providing the exotic crystal for the project. "Is he in on this?"
"We
can't test it on him if he knows about it" Halios replied.
