Nel held on tight to Neter’s waist as they
galloped through the woods of Lemuria, the light and wind was so intense her
eyes just streamed with tears, she had to keep them closed. Blinded, she could
still breathe in the sweet air, the rich organic aromas of the Lemurian forest
filled her senses with new life. Like Zara, she was struggling to make sense of
the nightmare slash dream she was journeying on, nothing was making sense, in
spite of her premonitions. She didn't understand how the Dogons had become so
misunderstood, she couldn't imagine them slaughtering all those children in
Culloom. And then there was this whole god of Death thing. She tried to be
smart about it all, and reminded herself this could be some sort of illusion,
that there was always the possibility she was being incredibly stupid, letting
him take her who knew where?
For
some unexplainable reason, she felt like she could trust him. As the snowy
white hooves, galloping beneath her sped through the trees, she found herself reflecting
upon the god of Death images in her text books, he was almost a perfect
replica, aside from one thing. His brilliant white 'unicorn' was missing a
horn. So far the Grim Reaper had only helped her, Lemuria was much more
pleasant than the TLS Program, she knew death had been her only other option.
How could this be? Had she in fact died in the tunnel? Was this in fact the Promised
Land after all? Was that why the Grim Reaper was no longer a threat? She was
already dead?
As they approached Crystal Lake, Neter slowed his horse and let him wander out into the shallow shoreline for a drink. Nel rubbed the teary filter from her eyes to look around, when to her utter amazement, the image of a unicorn appeared through the mist, her horn glowing with a magical light.
Instantly
she covered her eyes, but Neter’s horse whinnied and the unicorn whinnied in
return! It wasn’t her imagination!
Unable
to resist a glimpse she peeked through her fingers... The unicorn tossed her
feathery mane and began to walk towards them through the shallow waters of the
lake!
She
squeezed her eyes tight, forcing herself not to look, terrified of what she had
done, of allowing herself to be led astray like this. This all was turning
bad... She could hear the mare’s breath she was so close… Was it too late
already? Just as she couldn't avoid looking at the God of Death, she couldn't
take her eyes off the beautiful unicorn, either.
She
peeked again, the mare was really close now... The horn had disappeared!
"What
happened to the horn?" She wondered if the horn was actually some sort of
hallucination or optical illusion now.
"It's
not a horn" Neter corrected, happy to know she had seen it. "It's a
pillar of light" he explained. "Photons. It's her Phoenix Flame, it's
only visible from a distance."
"It's
her Phoenix Flame?" Nel knew she
wasn't seeing things, nor was this an anomaly. She had witnessed so-called
Light Serpents from the observatory, they looked very much the same, only on a
much larger scale.
"What
are photons?"
"Photons
are particles of light, what you see as a horn is just a concentration of
photons. Unicorns are the last pure Phoenix Beings on Gaia, the last creatures
to resist the Anunnaki holocaust" he explained, himself mesmerized by the
mare's beauty. "They are the most ancient bloodlines on Gaia."
"Holocaust?” Nel was shocked, his words
sounded so harsh.
When
they arrived at the campsite, Neter helped her off the horse and she watched
closely while he tended to his horse, struggling to grasp the notion that
perhaps, given the fact that it was so white it could in fact be a unicorn if it had an invisible horn. Apparently he loved his animal, whatever it
was, so where did the mythology get so twisted? Why would a god of Death
display such affection towards an animal if he was so cruel? Like the unicorns,
he didn't seem to fit the picture of evil either. Nothing about Lemuria made
sense at all.
"Are
you really
the god of Death??" She asked, finally daring to confront him.
Neter
chuckled, brushing it off lightly. "I'm actually the god of Mu" he
corrected. "Atalon calls me the god of Death because he's scared of me."
"He's
scared of you?"
"Yes…"
He tried to think of a quick way to explain. "It's a long story... It's
twisted."
Nel
sensed a wounded past. She had spent the last ten years writing nothing but
lies in the books for the New Empire, all the Panthers knew they were lies because
things didn't cross reference properly, ever. She had always wondered what
truths lay hidden behind the lies, and now, with every step deeper into the
heart of Lemuria a different side of reality was rapidly emerging. Not only
were the Dogons a beautiful and loving tribe, Lemuria definitely wasn't
Hellias, unicorns didn't really have horns, and Neter wasn't some god of Death
after all!
