2.22 The Skin Club

Halki, god of Intelligence sat at the Skin Club bar alone, deep in thought, pondering the success of Soloha in the Green Serpent, quantifying its potential for success in this popular joint. Excitement for the Farewell Celebration was gaining momentum in Atlan, along with big dreams and high hopes for the New Empire, King Atalon's party was a fabulous opportunity to open doors, win friends and influence life-altering minds.
When company slithered up beside him he knew who it was before he even laid his eyes upon her, her pheromone infused sweet vanilla perfume breath gave her away, her voice aroused him like a magic wand. He slipped his hand around her waist and gave her a gentle squeeze.
Dena moved closer, dropping the shoulder of her robe, teasing him with her magical charm. The gold dusted moisture from her body glistened under the throbbing lights like an irresistible lure, for a moment paralyzing his thoughts... Then it dawned on him; Dena caught her prey almost instantly, every time, he could use her...
Halki had a sweet spot for Dena, she was his favorite Vine Goddess. Aroused, he wrestled to stay on course, conscious of the sorcery. He broke free from her tentacles, reached into his pocket for the pipe, lit the bowl, took a long draw of the white smoke and blew the exhale into her face.
"I'm so sorry..." he broke the news bluntly, pushing her away gently as he fixed her stray hair. "I don't have any gold beads tonight."
Dena couldn't hide her shock or disappointment, Halki's rejection stung, the stinky smoke in her face was out of character, she knew he had plenty of gold.
Her disappointment was expected, Halki had a compromise. "I can offer you something more... How about some Fun?"
         "Fun?" Dena smiled, curious.
"How about some Soloha instead?" He offered her the pipe. "Do you like Soloha?"
Dena studied the pipe, unsure what to make of it now. "Soloha?" She scrunched her nose and sniffed the smoke, it smelled pretty bad but Halki seemed to enjoy it... "Sure… I'll try it" she cooed bravely, willing to be on the front lines of any new trend, especially one coming directly from the gods.
"Here…" Halki flicked on his lighter, offering to light her bowl. "Breathe it in, real deep" he smiled. "Hold it in as long as you can…"
Dena inhaled the white smoke, it filled her lungs and made her cough, as she struggled to regain her breath and collapsed backwards into a booth, laying on her back on the bench, her head spinning in a dizzying vortex. For a moment she forgot where she was, then she began to feel a wild rush lift her higher and higher.
"Ha-haaa!" She cackled out loud as her body spiralled up the golden dance pole, straight into the heavenly lights above, flashing around her like a kaleidoscope of mirror balls, throbbing to the beat.

Hearing the cackle from across the bar, Mika, one of the Golden Goddesses glanced toward the bar from the stage, eyeing the drama unfolding in the shadows beyond. Dena, her toughest competition no less, was suddenly looking very uncompetitive… She was laughing out of control, as if lit up on the wine in a really big way, so suddenly, too. Dena never let her guard down like that... How could it be?
The plume of smoke rising from the god sitting at the bar was a clue... She watched him get up and join Dena in the booth, taking a seat across from her. What were they smoking? Was it a drug? Wondering, and sensing opportunity at the same time, she wove through the crowded bar towards the strangely behaving couple in the booth, the moment her dance set was over.

"Hey there, Sugar Pie!" Halki greeted her with a wasted grin.
"What's wrong with Dena?" Mika demanded with disdain. She pointed to the pipe, it smelled awful, something was wrong, the Dena she knew would hate something like that. "What is that?"
"Soloha" Halki replied, grinning. He slipped his hand around her waist, giving her a gentle squeeze. "Happy Smoke" he handed her the pipe, still grinning. "It’s new. Would you like to try some too?"
